Changing up the Breakfast routine

Routines are the savior of many a busy parent, whether they stay at home, go to work or work from home. Being the latter I find giving myself certain routines helps keep me focused, prevents time wasting and allows me to better achieve the things I need to accomplish on any given day.

But sometimes we need to shake it up a bit. Never a truer saying was heard than “A change is as good as a holiday”.

For me this week, taking on my Belvita Breakfast challenge, a change is proving to be just that. You see , I was always a cup of tea and 2 slice of toast type of girl.  I have often though about my lack of fruit, especially during winter when the fruits don’t seem as inviting. And I am pretty sure my calcium comes from the milk in my tea and the occasional cheese and biscuit indulgence and my belief that the calcium is better absorbed with a glass of wine. (I cant remember where I heard that, and it wasn’t from my chats with dietician Melanie….I may have  just made it up).

With the Belvita biscuit challenge it requires the biscuits to be taken with a serving of fruit and a serving of dairy. This means that as well as the 4 biscuits, I can have a serving of fruit that could include for example, a regular apple, a banana, a punnett of strawberries or a fresh fruit salad.

As a dairy snack I can have a small tub of yoghurt, a glass of milk, a latte coffee, or indeed a yummy fruit smoothie that combines my fruit and dairy. This was certainly my favourite and so filling.

Today’s smoothie and biscuits.

There are also 4 different flavours available so you can change it up with your biscuits too. My favourite is the ‘Fruit and Fibre’ followed closely by the new ‘Honey and Nut with Choc Chips’. This one I even enjoy as a biscuit to dip in my tea at the end of the day. I figured that whilst I like to have something sweet with my cuppa at night, at least I know this is low in saturated fats and low GI. And they also proved a saviour on the car ride home last night, stuck in traffic with a very hungry little 1 year old!

Whilst my challenge was for the purposes of letting you all know my findings I have certainly found the biscuits to provide for me a slower release of energy over the morning and thus will always now have a packet in the pantry. One of the mornings I decided to have my usual toast and tea and I did find that the hunger pains started much earlier that day.

The kids actually enjoyed them too and thought the ‘Honey and Nut with Choc Chips’ taste just like choc chip biscuits. The chocolate is very minimal and knowing they are a much healthier option also makes them a great snack for them too.

Thanks for following my BelVita Breakfast challenge. If you are someone who would love more energy to last throughout the day, struggles to find the time to eat a good healthy breakfast, or just feels like a change to your morning routine, then BelVita biscuits may be a  great alternative for you and your family.

This is the final in a series of sponsored posts, however all views are my own and I was only required to participate in the challenge and provide my honest findings.

Are you a routine person when it comes to your breakfast, or do you like to ‘change it up’ a bit?

I was never one for smoothies as they always seemed like hard work! But really quite easy and pretty good if I do say so myself!

Like I said Kaz, there is nothing wrong with routine! At least you are eating something in the morning 🙂

I’ve just recently gotten into the habit of eating breakfast again. It’s either an oats/quinoa with rice milk, chia seeds, cinnamon mixed in with some fruit (bananas or strawberries) or I have smoked salmon, steamed kale and sauteed mushrooms. I thought I’d be bored with it by now, but so far, so good 🙂
