Bloggers Brunch, Brands and The Modern Parent

Last Friday, myself and 50 or so other bloggers gathered together for my third Bloggers Brunch run by the lovely Christie from Kids Business.

These mornings are a great way to catch up with other bloggers, to have a champers and a touch of pampering (thanks Ellie makeup) and to be introduced to some of the new products being launched by a variety of brands and organizations.

It started well enough, catching up with blogging buddies old and new. Then wouldn’t you know it, I was called up to model one of the latest looks from Mix Apparel,  the new clothing brand by Coles. You know when you have this weird feeling they are going to pick you, so you pretend to be busy, play with your phone and look anywhere but at the lady up there with the microphone…and yet they still call you up? Anyway despite the apprehension of having about 50 or so other bloggers watching me strut my stuff on the catwalk (most clicking away photos to later appear in twitter streams and on facebook), it was sweetened a little by the offer of Mix to let those of us that modelled, keep our outfit. And I must say the clothes are really pretty good and best of all, reasonably priced. A little weird to be buying clothes whilst doing the groceries, but apparently all the rage in the U.S and U.K.  [Read more...]

Keeping on top of your photos & Preserving your precious memories

How good are you at saving, storing, printing and displaying your photos? Are these precious memories laying precariously on a memory disk waiting to be attacked by some weird digital virus? Are they laying dormant in your computer waiting to crash and burn?

This weeks post has been inspired by my week of collating photos for my husbands 40th birthday celebrations.  I have had lots of laughs, a few tears and an overall flooding back of all manner of memories as I waded through the images. This last week has again reminded me just how fast time is going, and just how quickly those around me (myself included) are changing, growing and greying. [Read more...]

Why we should let the village raise the child

It takes a village to raise a child? Or so the African proverb tells us.  Whilst this may still be the case in many parts of the world, it is something that seems to be embraced less and less in Western society. Maybe this is something that could be argued as detriment to the well being of our children and ourselves. This past week, I witnessed first hand the many positive aspects of communal family living.

Last Sunday, my husband, myself and our 5 children, along with 6 other couples and their families, set off on a week long holiday down the coast to celebrate the 40thbirthday milestones of my husband and his mates  (years ago they conjured up a dream trip to Las Vegas minus the family, however renovations, babies, work commitments and visions of  ‘The Hangover 3′  saw the trip somewhat change in nature to a family beach holiday less than an hour down the road). Fourteen adults and seventeen kids descended on accommodation reminiscent of school camp. A huge long hallway with bedrooms either side that housed bunk bed upon bunk bed, communal male and female toilets, large kitchen, dining and lounge area and a room out the back for the kids to run wild, became our abode for 7 nights. Christmas fun, photos and festivity with Huggies, Apps an ebooks

When Huggies recently sent me some of their new limited edition Christmas Nappies it caught me a little by surprise.  Christmas already! Yep in just under 60 days! Whilst I love the festive season it does make me a little apprehensive to say the least. For one it makes me realise how fast time is passing by…wasn’t I just eating hot cross buns and Easter eggs? But like it or not, it will come anyway so best  embrace it all and go with the festive flow.

So with Christmas nappies in hand I relished the chance to dress up and photograph the 2 month old in all his finest Christmas underwear.  Nothing cuter than a bub in just his nappy, so here’s hoping for a scorching Christmas day so there is no need to purchase another Christmas day outfit!

And while we’re in the spirit, Huggies have also released an App that easily allows you to add all manner of Christmas paraphernalia to your photos. You can easily email them to your friends, post to facebook or even use as Christmas cards. I tried it out on my boys and they  had lots of fun creating different Christmas looks. To get the free Huggies Christmas App simply click on this link :

And for more Christmas ideas and tips you can check out their ebooks

So best of luck to you all as you take on the festive season…and most of all be sure to enjoy!

Where did that time go?

Remember when you were little and time seemed to take forever? When Christmas Day was over I remember bemoaning the fact that it would be an eternity until carols and candles and Santa paid us another visit. it seemed like I was at primary school for just the longest time and my next years birthday was just way too long to wait.

But now it seems like a split second since i was writing up my Christmas list and decorating the Christmas tree…and it was nigh on 12 months ago. One whole year. A year that used to take forever, but now appears to whittle away in a matter of crazy, busy, jam-packed weeks.

It wasn’t as if we weren’t busy as kids. We had plenty going on. But I remember rolling my eyes at the ‘old people’ (they would be my mums friends who were probably  just 30 at the time) who would make comments such as “enjoy being at school…it goes so quickly”, or “I remember when you were a baby..it seems like only yesterday”.
