Win a photo book and get those photos on display

This post is in collaboration with Photobox, however all opinions are my own…..

What do you do with all those photos you take? Now I can’t find any actual figures for how many photos we now take but I read somewhere that it was something like more photos are now taken in an hour than in all the years leading up to the invention of the smart phone camera (Don’t quote me on that but it is suffice to say we take a whole lot more photos now than ever before!) The problem is however, that we often only share them via digital means. Usually it’s a snap for Instagram or a Facebook update that languishes down the bottom of a feed after a day or so. We no longer print them out to flick through, or eagerly await with anticipation the fruits of our film camera from nigh on a week ago!  We rarely fill photo albums.  The instantaneous nature of photography today probably makes us less inclined to feel the need to keep, print  and display.

We sometimes don’t even back them up.

I learnt some hard lessons years ago about the consequences of not properly backing up photos. I vowed it would never happen again.

As a passionate photographer this is something I am really good at now. But I also love the advantages of cloud storage where I no longer have to rely on devices , USBs, CD’s  and other gadgetry that have all been known to fail at times.

I have taken pretty much a gazillion photos too of my family. But I am also really good at putting them on display. I have lots of framed photos, some printed canvases and now I am gathering up a nice collection of photo books.photobox-collage

I love that our photos can be on display yet it is not like having photo albums to plough through. The experience of a photo book is much more ascetically pleasing and rewarding especially for friends and family who I’m sure don’t need to see  8 different photos of baby eating yoghurt. Unless of course they are nicely designed on the one page!

Every year I do a family album photo book that captures all the highlights from our year. I have also done a book for each child up until their first day of school and any holidays during the year also get a separate book, as I tend to go a little snap happy when I am away. Having just returned from another family holiday, I know that I only managed to entice all the kids to pose for just one more photo because they know the importance of the holiday photo book and they all eagerly anticipate its creation. They also love flicking through the photo books from holidays gone by and I am always amazed at how much the books remind them of little moments I thought they would never remember. I know they wouldn’t sift through mountains of photo files on a computer screen in quite the same way!

I do hate it when I hear the panic in people’s voices when they lose a phone or a computer crashes and all of those precious memories are sitting precarious and vulnerable.

So please get out those pictures and put them on display. Make a photo wall, print a canvas, make some fridge magnets with your phone pics, make a poster collage and frame it or make a photo book of a recent holiday or even of some random everyday pictures that capture your family just as they are.

If you would like to get started with this, then the people of Photobox have kindly offered one lucky reader a free Classic A4 personalised photobook of 26 pages valued at $49.95.

To win, simply tell me in the comments what sort of photo book you would create right now. What gorgeous book could  all those priceless images sitting on your computer become?

  1. So I estimate from the 100,000 photos I have in my computer, not sorted or ordered (oh the shame) I would make 0-5 book for all my children – as a keepsake, it might take me 5 days but I’d do it. I adore the idea of photo books!

I love photo books. I have made many books but could still find many more to make. Like most people, I have so many photo’s of my four children, my family, my friends and even those picturesque moments that deserve to be shared with others. Time is what I think many people struggle with.

  2. Christie-Childhood 101

I would love to create a record of some recent family vacations for my girls to look through together and enjoy again the good times we had 🙂

  3. Anna mum of one

I would make a photo book of my niece from age one to 18, ready for her 18th birthday.

Howdy! This post couldn’t be written any better! Reading this post reminds me of my old room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this article to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Many thanks for sharing!

I’d love to create a photobook of our recent trip to country Victoria – beautiful autumn leaves, stark alpine terrain, magnificent farms, and of course the Murray River.

  6. Mark

My wife is a photo book nut. We have precious books from our trips to Thailand (where we stayed for 3 days in the jungle living in a local village helping to look after Elephants), Victoria, New Zealand and on cruises. She loves them so much that she is now asked by family and friends to do there’s.

To the lucky winner – it’s easy and the end result will blow your mind.

I took my aging mother to England last year for her first trip beyond Australia and New Zealand. It warrants a photo book so that her Grandchildren can see what Grandma got up to at her age. She’s a real inspiration!

  8. DIANA

A photo book to look at and laugh until we can laugh no more. I have an array of photo’s of family and friends in positions, circumstances and mishaps that always make us giggle. Be priceless having them all in one place, ready to put a smile on someone’s dial 😉

One that says ‘nope he’s not gay’!!! I’d love to put all the silly snaps taken over the years into one wonderful book, of hubby being stupid (along with his mates) putting on the odd garment or two from my wardrobe.

  10. karina l

Photographs of my daughter because she grows up too fast!

  11. I’d make a photo book for my travel obsessed daughter, featuring all of the wonderful places she has been so far.

  12. Robyn (Mrs D)

I am actually just in the process of making photos books of each of my kids ‘baby years’. Yes I am that slack and STILL haven’t done them yet!! Great give-away xx

  13. sally

I would put a book together documenting my little boys life. he is 2.5yr so it would be a book about his 2.5yr in our life with all our memories I just have not gotten round to getting off the computer.

  14. Bek @Just For Daisy

Somehow I woke up this morning with a four year old!! So I would document her last four years if I won this lovely book! 🙂 And thanks for the gentle push – I really need to put up some photos!!

  15. jody buhagiar

I would love to make the next stage photo book. My children getting married and then the grandkids 🙂 What an awesome idea and thank you, I didnt know this was possible till I popped over 🙂

  16. Natasha

I’m embarressed to say all my photos are stored on the camera, computor, boxes and photo albums with some on the walls of course, but what a wonderful idea, I have five children two of whom have families of there own now and would love to put together a photo book for each of my children, will bring back lots of wonderful memories, this will definitely be my next project on the agenda.

  17. Wendy S

I’d make a photo book of our recent holiday to Melbourne. The big kids are old enough to remember it but my 2 yr old will forget and it would be lovely to have a photo book for her to look at as she grows.

  18. Marleisa

My Mum and I have done 4 overseas trips together. Each time we go I promise her I will make a photo book of the holiday …..um yet to make her one. Think I might make 1 book with ALL of our holidays memories in it!

  19. Lisa Wood

I too love taking photos of all of my boys, and of our travels. I have been one of those people who did not back up their pictures and our computer did crash – we lost about 4 years of photos, still get really upset when ever I think about how many cute pictures of my boys are gone.
As we now have two of older sons in different states I would love to create an album of our last time we were all together so that we can all look at them and remember the year that were still close enough to each other.
Now we have one navy son based in Sydney and one navy son based in Perth…sure means that our family is spread far and wide 🙂

  20. Charlotte

When we lost our beloved childhood dog, my brother made a beautiful photobook of our favourite photographs of her. As we didn’t have many, we have been very conscious to take PLENTY of our two rescue dogs now… we’ll need a few volumes of photobooks to cherish them all! I’d love to start by creating the first book now 🙂

  21. sarah@tomfo

I’d make a photo book of the last year, I love these books and make them regularly. It’s my guys first year at big school next year, so a book of his last year before then would be a good idea.

  22. Teena Lewis

My mother used to make scrapbooks for my eldest daughter but she passed before she got to meet my second daughter, so she has missed out on that something special, would love to create one for her!

  23. Terri Todd

The life of a teenage drama queen, the faces, the selfies, the fun

  24. Clare Goodchild

Photos are priceless. I would create a photo book of all the important people in my life, past and present.

  25. Rachel Oliver

I would create a “best of” book. So the best photos of my children (separate and together) all in one book in chronological order. It’d be lovely to go through and see how they’ve grown and changed and a lovely way for me to keep them close to me when they have to go visit dad as we do 50/50 shared care.

  26. Tracy Grayson

A photo book is an awesome idea, a way to keep all my precious memories of my family together, from hubby to my 2 beautiful daughters, their partners and my 2 mischievous and adorable grandsons. It would be part one of an ongoing documentary of their lives. I can see myself getting addicted to it.
